Barton steps out of conference to roll by Mavericks 7-0
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team stepped outside the Jayhawk Conference Thursday night, rolling to a 7-0 win over Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Great Bend High School. Shala Giardini continued her goal scoring spree with 5 more goals giving her 46 on the season. The win moved Barton to 11-3 on the season while the Mavericks fell to 7-9. Barton is back in Jayhawk play Saturday at Johnson County.
Highlights
The Cougars scored in the game’s opening 5 minutes and were on their way to the non conference win on the cold evening. Danielle Mayo recorded the goal with a header from Theresa Crane on a corner kick. Giardini added a pair of goals before half on assists from Flavia Bernardes to make it 3-0 at intermission.
Bernardes made it 4-0 15 minutes into the 2nd half as she scored a direct kick off a corner as the ball sailed past all the players and into the net. Bernardes hooked up with Giardini two more times before the night ended and Crane added another assists to Giardini for the final goal with 15 minutes to play in the game.
The Cougars have a big Jayhawk Conference contest this weekend at Johnson in a game that will weigh heavily into the seeding for Region VI play as well. Both teams have 1 loss in the conference.
