Giardini adds 6 mores goals to school record in 11-1 win at Cloud
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team remained unbeaten in Jayhawk Conference action with an 11-1 win on the road over Cloud County Monday. The Cougars got 6 more goals from freshman standout Shala Giardini in the win, boosting her record total 40 on the season. Barton’s win sets up a showdown with conference unbeaten Hutchinson Friday in Hutch.
Highlights
Giardini continued her assault on the Barton record books with her 3rd 6-goal contest and her 2nd straight. That pushes her season total to 40 – well beyond the old mark of 28 and closing in on the career mark of 49 in just her 1st season.
She scored in twice in the opening 4 minutes and never let up. Her final game came with e minutes left in the win. The Cougars also received a pair of goal from Danielle Mayo and single goals from Paige Christensen, Larami Klein, and Jaszmyne Beverly. Theresa Crane and Flavia Bernardes each led Barton with 3 assists. Both are on pace to challenge the record of 23 assists set by Yesenia Garcia last year. Ailie Freel, Giardini, Amber Hull, and Jaime Havran each had an assist for the Cougars as well.
Cloud’s only goal came early in the contest when Wittney Beckstead cut Barton’s lead to just 2-1 6 minutes into the contest. That would be 1 of just 3 shots the Thunderbirds would put on goal in the game.
