Barton falls in opener; plays 3 in Texas this weekend
T he Barton Community College women’s soccer team lost its season opener to Western Nebraska Saturday at Cougar Fields. The contest, a 3-1 loss, was to be the 1st of 2 games over the weekend but Sunday’s scheduled game with Maple Woods (Mo) was cancelled due to the heavy rainfall. Barton will be on the road for 3 games in Texas this weekend. The Cougars will play two at the Cedar Valley Classic then play at Mountain View College before returning home.
Highlights
The two teams traded goals within minutes of each other in the opening half and stayed that way until 20 minutes in the 2nd half. Anna Jacobo gave Western Nebraska a 1-0 lead at the 23:29 into the half then Barton tied the game at 1-1 at the 25:13 mark. Nataleigh Cliff evened the score for Barton on an assist from Whitney Smith.
The game stay 1-all until a pair of goals by Western’s Ashley Quintana within five minutes of each other midway through the 2nd half for the 3-1 win for Western Nebraska. The Barton-Maple Woods game schedule for Sunday will not be made up.
The Cougars will have 3 games over the memorial weekend tournament. Barton will travel to Lancaster, Texas to take part in the Cedar Valley Classic. Barton will play Hill College (Texas) Friday at 4 pm then take on host Cedar Valley at 1 pm Saturday. The Cougars will then play a road game Mountain View (Texas) Sunday at 10 am in Dallas.
