Cougars lose heartbreaker to Hutch on goal in final minutes of contest
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team lost for the 1st time in Jayhawk Conference play this year in heartbreaking fashion, losing to No. 15 Hutchinson 1-0 in the game’s final minutes Thursday afternoon at Cougar Fields. The Cougars and Hutch were just 2 of 4 unbeatens in the Jayhawk heading into the contest. Earlier in the week, Barton won 8-1 at Hesston and now stands at 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the Jayhawk. Hutch in now 7-0 and 5-0. Barton will be back at home Wednesday to take on Garden City at 2 pm. The Broncbusters will bring a 3-2 overall mark and 1-2 in conference into the contest.

Highlights
Neither team was able to score for the games 1st 85 minutes before Ciara Corboy gave Hutchinson a 1-0 lead and eventual win with just 4 minutes left in the contest. It was just the 6th shots the Blue Dragons were able to put on goal in the game.

Barton was able to put 9 shots on goal during the contest but all of those were saved by the Hutch goalkeeper. Barton also outshot Hutch 16-10 in the game.

On Tuesday Barton capped a 3-game stretch that saw the offense explode for 33 goals. Barton won 8-1 over Hesston following 14-0 and 11-1 wins over Dodge City and Cowley. Yesenia Garcia scored 3 times in the win as did Theresa Crane. Barton also got goals from Whitney Smith and Nataleigh Cliff. Betsy Dreiling led Barton with 2 assists.

The Cougars will look to get back on the winning track Wednesday when Garden visits Cougar Fields for a Jayhawk match up.
