Barton women crack NJCAA soccer ranking for the 1st time in school history
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team landed in the NJCAA Top 15 for the 1st time in school history with this past week with a No. 15 ranking. The Cougars will carry that 1st ever ranking into the Region VI tournament where the Cougars will also host a 1st round game. Barton is the No. 1 seed in the Region and will take on Coffeyville in the opening round Tuesday at 1 pm at Cougars Fields.

Highlights
The Cougars won the Jayhawk Conference title for the 1st time, which gives Barton the top seed in the draw. If the Cougars win that opener against Coffeyville, Barton will play Saturday at 4 pm in Topeka in semifinal action. The Cougars would take on the winner of the Butler/Neosho contest at Hummer Park. The finals are Sunday at 3 pm.

The Cougars are currently riding a 9-game winning streak – also the best ever at Barton in a season that has seen a lot of 1st as well as numerous team and individual records fall. The road to the school’s 1st ever Region VI championship will not be an easy one though with 3 of teams in the Region having been ranked at one time or another this year.

Hutch and Butler weren’t ranked in the latest NJCAA polls but both were receiving votes and have spent much of the year ranked. Four teams – Barton, Johnson, Butler, and Hutch – all won double digits games in region play and combined to go 36-0 against the rest of the region. Overall this year, the quartet is 59-12-3 with 5 losses and 2 ties coming against each other. All of the other 7 losses have come to teams ranked in the Top 15.
