Casper
new Barton women’s soccer coach
The Barton County Community College women’s
soccer team will be under the guidance of Bob Casper next
season as Casper has been named to replace Jared Wilbanks,
who coached the Cougars for a pair of season. Wilbanks will
be getting out of college soccer coaching, taking a job in
a forensics laboratory in Texas. Casper comes to Barton from
Bemidji State, where he was an assistant coach the past two
seasons. Casper is the 4th coach in the 6-year history of
the program.
Cougars
earn All-Conference honors
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
put three players on the All Jayhawk Conference teams. Elaine
Fontes and Robin Reidle were named to the First Team, while
Regina Zink was voted onto the second team. The Cougars turned
in a great year, breaking many individual and team records.
Barton finished the season with a record of 8-7-1, ending
with a loss to Hutchinson in the first round of the Region
VI playoffs.
Cougars
season ends with 2-0 loss to Hutch in Region VI playoffs
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
had several highs during the 2005 season, but Monday afternoon
was not one of them. The Cougars lost their opening round
game of the Region VI Tournament, falling to Hutchinson, 2-0,
ending Barton’s season with an 8-7-1 record. The Cougars,
who ran off 6 straight wins at one point, were winless in
the final four games of the season. Those four games were
played without the services of Elaine Fontes, who scored a
record 23 goals in the 1st 12 games of the year while Barton
built an 8-4 mark. Fontes missed the final four games of the
year after injuring her knee in a 6-0 win over Allen County.
Fontes had surgery Friday to repair 3 ligaments in her knee.
Hutchinson (9-9) moves on to play in the Region VI semifinals
Saturday.
Cougars
wrap up 3rd place in Jayhawk; home playoff game with tie at
Dodge
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
finally accomplished its goal of a home playoff game Wednesday
afternoon with a 1-1 tie at Dodge City. The tie gave the Cougars
3rd place in the Jayhawk Conference, securing that home playoff
game in the final regular season game of the season. Barton
had lost its last 2 games after running off 6 straight wins.
The Cougars are now 8-6-1 overall this year and 6-2-1 in the
Jayhawk. Dodge is now 8-7-2 and 5-3-1. The Cougars will play
host to Hutchinson Monday afternoon at 2 pm in the opening
round of the Region VI Tournament.
Barton
struggles on the road at Johnson
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
dropped just their second Jayhawk Conference contest with
a 4-0 loss at No. 13 Johnson County. The Cougars’ overall
record fell to 8-6, but they are still in the hunt to host
a first round playoff game. Barton will stay on the road,
traveling to Dodge City on Wednesday, looking to close out
the regular season on a winning note.
Barton
drops 3-0 contest to Butler in battle of Jayhawk unbeatens
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
saw its string of 6 straight wins and a perfect Jayhawk Conference
season come to an end Tuesday, dropping a 3-0 contest to Butler
County at Cougar Fields. The Cougars fell to 6-1 in the Jayhawk
while Butler locks up the conference title at 7-0. Barton
played the game without its leading scorer Elaine Fontes,
who missed the contest due to a knee injury. Her status in
uncertain at this point as when she will return. Barton is
now 8-5 while Butler, ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA, stays perfect
at 14-0. Barton and Johnson County will square off for 2nd
place in the Jayhawk when the two teams battle in Overland
Park.
Cougars
remain unbeaten in Jayhawk Conference with 6-0 blanking of
Allen
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
kept its hopes alive for the Jayhawk Conference title, blanking
Allen County 6-0 Saturday afternoon in conference action at
Cougar Fields. The win moved Barton to 8-4 overall this year
and 6-0 in Jayhawk play. Barton still has 3 conference tilts
left, including a battle with the other unbeaten team in the
Jayhawk, Butler County, Tuesday afternoon. Barton is currently
riding a school-best 6-game winning streak. The win over Allen
guaranteed Barton a home game in the upcoming Region VI playoffs.
Allen County fell to 2-7 in the Jayhawk and 2-13-1 overall.
Barton
defeats Northern Oklahoma; winning streak at 5
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
continued its winning ways Wednesday afternoon, knocking off
Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa by a 3-1 score on a chilly, windy
day at Cougar Fields. Barton scored a late goal in the opening
half, then built its lead to 3-0 on the way to the 5th straight
win for the Cougars – extending their school record.
Barton is now 7-4 for the season and will step back into Jayhawk
Conference action Saturday when Allen County visits. Barton
is 5-0 in the Jayhawk with 4 conference dates left. Allen
County will bring a 2-6 Jayhawk record into the contest and
a 2-11-1 overall mark.
Barton
stays perfect in Jayhawk; runs winning streak to record-setting
4 games
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
is experiencing the best stretch of soccer in the history
of the 5 years of the program. The Cougars improved their
winning streak to 4 games Sunday afternoon, breaking the old
mark of 3. That win also kept the Cougars unbeaten in Jayhawk
Conference action. All that occurred as Barton scored 4 second
half goals to knock off Hutchinson, 4-1, at Cougars Fields.
The Cougars are now 6-4 overall and a perfect 5-0 in Jayhawk
play. Barton is one of just 2 unbeatens left in the conference.
Barton
stays unbeaten in West play; Fontes equals school record
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
kept pace with the leaders in the Jayhawk Conference Wednesday
with a 5-0 shutout win over Cloud County Wednesday afternoon
in Concordia. The win moves the Cougars to 4-0 in the West
and 5-4 overall this season. It was also the 3rd straight
win for Barton – matching the longest stretch of wins
in the 5-year history of the program. Barton will go for its
4th straight win as well as a 5-0 start to conference play
Sunday when Hutchinson visits for a 3 pm start. A win would
all but assure Barton of a home playoff game to start Region
VI action at the end of the season.
Fontes
earns Player of the Week Honors
Elaine
Fontes of the Barton County Community College women’s
soccer team has been named the NJCAA Division 1 Women’s
Soccer Player of the Week. Fontes started off the week with
a record setting performance at Garden City. She scored a
team record 5 goals in the Cougars’ 9-0 victory. In
the final game of the week, Fontes led Barton County to a
2-1 win over Neosho. She scored both the Cougars’ goals,
including the game winner with 14 seconds left on the clock.
Cougars
get game-winner with 14 seconds left; remain unbeaten in Jayhawk
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
has been setting scoring records at a light speed pace this
season but none of the 31 goals up to Saturday’s final
goal were near as exciting as that 32nd goal of the season.
It was that goal – scored with just 14 seconds to play
in regulation – that gave the Cougars a dramatic 2-1
win at Neosho Saturday in Jayhawk Conference play. A key win
in Barton quest for a 1st round home game in the Region VI
playoffs as the Cougars remained unbeaten in Jayhawk play
at 3-0. Barton is 4-4 overall this season. Neosho fell to
4-2 in the conference and 8-3 overall. Barton is one of just
3 unbeaten teams in the conference with the top 4 getting
home games.
Fontes
sets school mark with 5 goals in 9-0 win at Garden City
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
is experiencing an offensive season the school has not seen
in 5 years of existence for the program. Earlier this year
the Cougars rewrote the offensive record books with a 12-0
blanking of Coffeyville. Wednesday afternoon in Garden City,
the Cougars again changed the record book a bit as they put
up the 2nd highest goal total in school history with a 9-0
shutout of Garden City. In the process freshman Elaine Fontes
scored 5 goals for Barton, setting the single-game record.
Barton is now 2-0 in the Jayhawk Conference and 3-4 overall.
Barton will attempt to 3-0 in the conference when they visit
Neosho County Saturday.
Cougars
earn split, go 1-1 in Mid Kansas ShootOut

The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
defeated Northern Oklahoma on Saturday before falling to Iowa
Central on Sunday, finishing the Mid Kansas ShootOut with
a weekend record of 1-1. Barton defeated Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa
by the final score of 3-1 with a women’s record crowd
of 150 in attendance at Cougars Fields, then dropped the Iowa
Central game by the score of 6-2. This weekend’s play
moves the Cougars’ season record to 2-4. Barton County
will be back in action at Garden City this Wednesday for a
Jayhawk Conference battle.
Barton
blanked at Butler County
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
found itself on the other side of the ledger Saturday after
a record-shattering 12-0 win over Coffeyville in the team’s
home opener last week. The Cougars were blanked by an 8-0
score at one of the favorites in the Jayhawk Conference – Butler
County. The game was a non-conference affair that left
the Cougars with a 1-3 overall mark and still a 1-0 record
in Jayhawk play. The Cougars will back at home Saturday
and
Sunday when Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa and Iowa Central
visit for the Mid Kansas Shoot Out at Cougar Fields. Cougars
rewrite record book in 12-0 win over Coffeyville to start
Jayhawk play
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team
couldn’t have started the 2005 Jayhawk Conference play
with a much better effort. The Cougars rolled to a 12-0 win
over Coffeyville in the home opener, setting numerous records
in the process. By the time it was over, Barton had broken
or tied 6 team records and 5 individual records – including
the 12 goals – as the Cougars improved to 1-2 on
the season. Coffeyville, playing in its first season, falls
to
0-4.
Barton
women start soccer season off with losses in Rochester Tourney
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer
team dropped the opening two games of the season to a pair
of quality
teams in Rochester, Minn. over the weekend. The Cougars
lost the season opener to unbeaten (3-0) Rochester by a
4-2 score
then fell 8-2 to the College of DuPage (3-0) Sunday. The
Cougars will open West play and be at home for the 1st
time this year
when Coffeyville visits Wednesday.
