| Cougars rally for tie with Dodge City
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer team never
led against the Dodge City Conquistadors but did not lose an important
game Wednesday afternoon at Cougars Fields. The contest, played
in a steady rain, ended in a 1-all tie between the two teams that
are fighting for a Region VI 1st round home contest. The Cougars
are now 3-1-1 in the region, good for 2nd, and 7-5-3 overall. Dodge
City is 2-3 and 4-7. The No. 1 seed will receive a bye and seeds
2-4 will host 1st round games.
Highlights
The two clubs were scoreless in the opening half before the Conquistadors
took the lead at 1-0 on a Eveyln Ferriero goal at the 51:45 mark.
That is how the game stayed until Barton’s Richelle Galeaz,
who missed all or part of Barton’s last two games which
were losses, evened the mark at the 1 with less than 20 minutes
to play on her 12th goal of the season.
Neither got off a lot shots with wet, slick conditions as Dodge
had 13 shots and Barton ended with 8. Cougar goalkeeper Laura Henkenmeier
finished with 9 saves for the Cougars.
