Cougars
run winning streak to 3; Galeaz sets
school mark
The
Barton County Community College women’s soccer team seems
to be breaking records nearly every time out this season. Another
record fell Wednesday as the Cougars put together the longest winning
streak in the 3-year school history of the program by recording
a 4-0 shutout of Cloud County Wednesday at Cougar Fields. Richelle
Galeaz also broke the single-season goal mark at Barton. The Cougars
are now 7-3-1 overall and 3-0 in Region VI action.
Highlights
The two teams stood off to a 0-0 tie at intermission as the Cougars
failed to score on 15 shots as the battled into a gusty north
wind. In the 2nd half, with the wind behind the Cougars, Barton
shot on the goal nearly at will. The Cougars fired off 29 shots
during the half, connecting on 4 of them.
Barton
took a 1-0 lead on Galeaz’s team-leading 7th goal
of the season for the Cougars just 15 seconds into the 2nd half.
That goal for Galeaz set a new Cougar single-season record, breaking
the old mark of 6 goals set by Amanda Staab in Barton’s initial
season of 2001. Galeaz also holds the single-season point record
for the Cougars, now with 22 points. Galeaz added another goal
to make it 2-0 just 12 minutes later.
Tiffany
Bowen scored her 1st goal of the season at the 63:27-mark of
the game
on an assist from Shan’ta Johnson. Breanne Riggs,
who earlier assisted one of Galeaz goal’s made it 4-0 at
the 84-minute mark with her 5th goal of the year for Barton. Brandy
Orth earned the assist for the Cougars.
While the Cougars were shooting at will on the Thunderbirds, Cloud
County did not get off a single shot on the Barton defense.
