| Cougars move into Region VI Semifinals; snag 10th win of season
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer team advanced
to the semifinals of the Region VI post season tournament with
a 3-0 win over Cloud County in 1st round action at Cougar Fields.
The win was also the 10th this season for Barton – the most
in school history – as they improve to 10-7-4 this season.
Barton, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will now take on Johnson
County, the No. 2 seed, in semifinal action at Overland Park Friday.
Highlights
Barton took a 1-0 lead on the Thunderbirds just prior to halftime
as Richelle Galeaz continued to score goals for the Cougars.
Galeaz scored for the 16th time this year to give Barton a 1-0
lead with less than 5 minutes to go in the 1st half. Breanne
Riggs had the assist on the goal, giving her 6 for the year,
good for 2nd on the Cougars behind Galeaz.
The
Cougars gave themselves a little cushion with a Regina Zink goal
early
in the 2nd half for a 2-0 lead. It was the freshman’s
4th goal this season. Jessica Waller scored the first goal of her
Cougar career when she netted a ball in the 88th minute of the
contest to finish up the scoring.
