Barton
wins 5th of season; set school record for wins
The Barton County Community College women’s soccer team is
playing just its 3rd year of soccer, but it will go down as the
best year to date for the program. With its 3-1 win at Dodge City
Wednesday, Barton County won its 5th game of the season, setting
a school record for wins. In each of the previous two seasons,
Barton won 4 games. The Cougars are now 5-3-1 overall and 2-0 in
the Conference leaving them just 1 of 2 unbeaten teams. Dodge City
fell to 1-1 in the Jayhawk.
Highlights
The two clubs battled to a 1-1 tie at the intermission with both
teams scoring in the game’s 1st 15 minutes. Barton took
a 1-0 lead when Richelle Galeaz netted a goal on an assist from
Regina Zink just 4:58 into the contest. Dodge quickly evened
the mark at 1-all with a goal at the 14:34 mark.
The
2nd half, though, belonged to Barton County. Dodge City got off
just 4
shots on the Cougars in the 2nd half while Barton fired
away 7 times at the Dodge City goalkeeper, putting two of them
in the goal. Zink gave Barton the lead just 1:34 into the 2nd half,
scoring on an assist from Galeaz. Shan’ta Johnson finished
off the scoring in the waning moments of the contest for the 3-1
final.
