Cougars season ends with loss to East Champion Cowley County
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday night with an 81-41 loss to Cowley County in the first round of the Region VI basketball tournament at Arkansas City.

Barton ends its season with an 11-20 record. Cowley County, 26-5, will move into the quarterfinals Saturday to take on Colby at 8 p.m. at Salina’s Bicentennial Center.

Highlights
The Cougars were tied with Cowley at 7-all before the Tigers went on a 24-4 run to take control of the game. Barton trailed 39-19 at the intermission. In the second half, Cowley, ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA, pushed the lead to 30 in the first 5 minutes of the contest.

Barton was led by sophomore Michelle Deighton, who closed out her career with 9 points and 3 assists. Akia Harmon had 7 points and 5 rebounds for the Cougars. Courtney Roach led four Cowley players in double figures with 17 points.
