Barton still unbeaten in West play after win over Garden The Barton Community College volleyball team remained unbeaten in Jayhawk West action this season with a home win over Garden City Wednesday night. The Cougars had little trouble with the Broncbusters, winning 25-9, 25-12, 25-12 to move to 4-0 on the year in the West and 11-4 overall this season. Earlier in the week, Barton won at the Friends JV, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-15. Barton will battle the only other West unbeaten this weekend when the Cougars travel to Liberal Saturday to take on Seward County.
Highlights
The Cougars dominated the match from the onset, jumping a big lead on the Broncbusters on their way to the 25-9 win. Garden never seriously challenged in the three sets as Barton stayed unbeaten in the West.
Raney Okeson had a big night at the net for Barton, recording 12 kills with no errors in 23 attempts. Laura Macek was impressive as well with 9 kills in just 10 attempts for an attack percentage of .900. As a team, Barton hit .426 attacking with 36 kills.
Mengya Wang had 15 assists for the Cougars while Ana Paula Pego added 8. Wang also led the Cougars in service aces with 3. Taylor Brown and Okeson both added 2. Pego led the Cougars with 11 digs while Okeson and Wang added 7 apiece. Macek led the blocking attack with 5. Brown had 3 blocks.
In the win at the Friends JV, Okeson had 10 kills with Brown and Xuemei Zhang adding 9 each. Wang again led Barton with 28 assists and added 11 digs. Pego had 16 digs to pace Barton and Macek 6 blocks.
