Barton drops West contest at Pratt
The Barton Community College volleyball team lost a key match in the current battle for 2nd place in the Jayhawk West with a setback at Pratt Wednesday night at Lesh Arena. Barton, Pratt, and Hutchinson all entered the night with 2 conference losses while Seward leads the race as an unbeaten. The Cougars lost at Pratt in three very close sets, 25-22, 26-24, 25-23 to fall into 4th place in the West standings. Barton is now 5-3 in the West and 13-7 overall while Pratt moves to 6-2 and 12-10. Barton will step out of conference this weekend to travel to Columbus, Nebraska for tournament action.

Highlights
The Cougars lost on the road for the 3rd time in 5 tries in West play with the tight loss to the Beavers. Barton was led in hitting by Taylor Brown and Raney Okeson each with 9 kills. Laura Macek added 8 kills in just 10 attempts with 1 error. Mengya Wang had 31 assists to pace the Cougars.

Macek had a great game at the net, recording 5 blocks – 4 solo – to go with those 8 kills. The sophomore from Ellsworth is currently 2nd in the nation at 1.64 blocks per set. Wang added 3 blocks to the cause.

Barton will travel to Columbus this weekend, playing North Platte (Neb) and host Central College Friday evening. The Cougars will battle Iowa Lakes and Colby Saturday.
