Cougars back on winning track with West win at Garden
The Barton Community College volleyball team is back on the winning track in Jayhawk West action with a easy 3-set win at Garden City this past weekend. The Cougars rolled to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-14 win over the Broncbusters to snap a 2-game West skid after a 4-0 start. Barton is now 5-2 in the West and 13-6 overall while Garden City falls to 1-5 in the West and 4-17 overall. Barton will be back in action Wednesday when the Cougars travel to Pratt for an important West battle between 5-2 teams in the conference and tied for 2nd.
Highlights
Much like the contest in Great Bend recently, Barton had little trouble in the win over the Broncbusters. Taylor Brown led Barton with 11 kills in the 3-set win with just 2 errors in 22 attempts. Raney Okeson had 9 kills with no errors in just 12 attempts and Xuemei Zhang added 7 kills. Mengya Wang led the Cougars with 29 assists and 7 digs in the West win.
Sammy Grollmes and Brown each had 2 service aces during the win and Okeson finished with 3 blocks.
The Cougars will travel to Pratt Wednesday in a big conference tilt with the Beavers. Both are 5-2 in the West and along with Hutch (4-2) battling for the current 2nd slot behind Seward (7-0) in the West standings.
