Barton volleyball splits West games
 The Barton Community College volleyball team split Jayhawk West matches this past week winning at home over Colby at losing on the road to West leader Hutchinson. Barton defeated Colby in 4 games, winning the match 25-18, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21 Wednesday at the Barton Gym. The Cougars lost the next night in Hutchinson, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19. Barton is now 4-7 in the West with one more regular season contest left at Seward County Wednesday. The Cougars will play Dodge City in the opening round of the Region VI tournament with the only thing left to be decided about that contest is where it will be held. Dodge is currently 4-6 with matches at Colby (2-9) and at home against Seward (8-2) remaining. Those final games will determine who will be the 4th seed and who will be the 5th seed.
Highlights
 Barton continued to knock off teams in the 2nd round through the West cycle that beat then in the 1st round with the win over Colby Wednesday. Barton won the 1st 2 games of the match pulling away before Colby battled back in the 3rd game. Barton closed strong once again in the 4th game to win the match.
Lindsay Schinstock led the hitting attack with 13 kills followed by Amber Hockman and Cenquis Rockett with 10 each. Laura Macek, the nation’s leader in blocks, did little to hurt that with 13 blocks during the win. Sammy Grollmes had 25 digs to pace 5 Cougars in double figures in that category. Mengya Wang had 36 of Barton’s 38 assists in the win.
The Cougars weren’t able to hang with the No. 16 Blue Dragons Thursday at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, losing in 3 games. Barton was led by Hockman with 8 kills and Ana Paula Pego with 13 digs. Wang had 18 assists while Rockett, Schinstock, and Macek each had 6 blocks.
If Barton beats Seward the Cougars would have the inside track on the 4th seed in the Region VI tournament. If the Cougars lose that contest, Barton would have to have Dodge lose to both Colby and Seward in order to finish in a tie with the Conquistadors.
