Cardoso de Sa, Haines earn 1st team All-West; Parker Coach of the Year
The Barton County Community College volleyball team went through the Jayhawk West unbeaten this year and were rewarded with five players gaining recognition on the All Jayhawk West team as well as Coach Ryan Parker being tabbed Coach of the Year. Barton had two players selected to the 1st in sophomores Alik Cardoso de Sa and Cristin Haines. Three more Cougars were selected to the 2nd team in sophomores Kara Robeson and Lisa Ohanaja in addition to freshman Rebecca Lima.
Alik Cardoso de Sa
Cardoso de Sa was chosen as a 1st setter again this season, repeating an honor she earned last season. Cardoso de Sa has 1264 assists as the Cougars head into the post season as the top seed in the Region VI tournament. In addition to her setting abilities, the 5-11 sophomore from Brazil is 2nd on the team in service aces with 53, 2nd in digs with 278, 3rd in blocks with 95 and recorded 54 kills this season while hitting .330 attacking.
Cristin Haines
Haines is also a repeat selection as the 1st team Libero. The sophomore is among the leaders nationally in digs and holds both the Barton single season and career mark for digs. This year the 5-5 sophomore from Illinois has 636 digs for the Cougars.
Kara Robeson
Robeson repeats as a 2nd team All West pick this after earning the same honor as a freshman last year. Robeson leads the Cougars in kills with 351 and in attacking percentage at .357. The 6-1 middle sophomore blocker from Wichita also leads the Cougars in blocks with 136 total blocks.
Rebecca Lima
Lima is 2nd behind Robeson in kills this year with 342 and lead the Cougars in kills per game with 3.53. Lima was 3rd in digs for the Cougars with 261. The 5-10 freshman outside hitter from Brazil also had 30 aces for Barton.
Lisa Ohanaja
Ohanaja also has big hitting numbers for the Cougars, recording 266 kills on the season. She is hitting .329 for the season. The sophomore middle blocker from Houston is 2nd on the team in blocks with 118 and leads the team in solo blocks with 55.
Coach Ryan Parker
Coach Parker is in his 2nd year at the helm of the Cougars, leading the team to an unbeaten Jayhawk West season at 8-0 and a 34-7 overall record. The Cougars are currently ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA and will be the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Region VI Championships this weekend in Hutchinson.
