Six Cougars tabbed All Jayhawk Conference Volleyball
The Barton County Community College volleyball team reeled in plenty of individual awards despite a season shortened by probation. After an impressive campaign, going 31-8 with just one loss during conference play under first year coach Ryan Parker, the volleyball team earned six spots on the All Jayhawk Conference volleyball team. Among those honored from Barton were sophomores Tanya Sale, Kali Angerman, and Mayne Pegorari along with freshmen Alik Cordosa De Sa, Cristin Haines, and Kara Robeson.

Cougars wrap up volleyball season with victory over Cloud
The Barton County Community College volleyball team finished up their season on Wednesday with a win over Jayhawk West foe Cloud County. The Cougars defeated Cloud by the score of 30-17, 30-13, 30-21 in front of a home crowd that saw a rare volleyball/basketball doubleheader. Barton’s volleyball season ends with a final record of 31-8, with a 7-1 mark in conference play.

Cougars lose in Jayhawk West for 1st time
The Barton County Community College volleyball team came up short in its bid for a perfect Jayhawk West mark, falling at Hutchinson Wednesday night in 4 games to defending West champion Hutchinson. Barton lost the 1st 2 games of the match before winning the 3rd. But Barton saw its perfect West mark end with a loss in the 4th game of the match to fall to 6-1 in the West. Hutch is now 7-0 in the West and 1 win from another West title. The Cougars are now 30-8 overall while No. 11 ranked Hutch is 17-10. Barton will conclude its season against Cloud County Nov. 1 at the Barton County Gym.

Cougars roll to easy wins over JV’s; West showdown with Hutch next
The Barton County Community College volleyball team took care of a couple of junior varsities this week in preparation for a Jayhawk West showdown with Hutchinson Wednesday in Hutch. Barton defeated the Friends JV Monday night at the Barton County Gym in 3 quick games and did likewise Wednesday night against the Newman JV at the Barton Gym. The Cougars, now 30-7 on the season, will battle Hutchinson Wednesday in the Sports Arena with both teams sitting at 6-0 in Jayhawk West play. The winner of that game will be the only unbeaten team in the Jayhawk with just 1 game left to play. Barton will still have Cloud County (4-2) in Great Bend while Hutchinson will still have a contest at home against Colby (4-1).

Cougars 1-1 at Seward Invite; lose to No. 1 Western Nebraska
The Barton County Community College volleyball team went 1-1 over the weekend at the Seward County Invitational, losing to the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Barton lost to Western Nebraska (37-1) 30-14, 30-25, 30-17 Friday at the Seward Invite but followed later in the day with a 30-21, 28-30, 30-24, 31-29 win over Midland (Texas), who has spent much of the season ranked in the NJCAA poll. Barton is now 28-7 on the season. Barton will take on the Friends JV Monday at the Barton Gym.

Barton wins at Seward to move to 6-0 in Jayhawk West
The Barton County Community College volleyball team kept cleared a big hurdle Thursday night in its bid for the top spot in the Jayhawk West. Barton won on the road perennial power Seward County in Liberal, 30-23, 26-30, 30-18, 33-31 to move to 6-0 in the West with just 2 matches remaining in conference action. Barton is tied with Hutchinson at 6-0 in the West. The two teams battle Wednesday at Hutchinson. Barton (27-6) will remain in Liberal to play in the Seward County Invitational today, taking on No. 1 ranked Western Nebraska as well as formerly ranked Midland College (Texas).

Cougars beat No. 10 Jefferson; win Jefferson Invitational with 3-0 mark
The Barton County Community College volleyball team knocked off another ranked foe over the weekend on its way to a 3-0 record at the Jefferson Invitational in Hillsboro, Mo. The Cougars weekend included a win over the No. 10 ranked host team, Jefferson College. The 3 wins at Hillsboro move the Cougars to 25-6 overall this season. Barton will be back to Jayhawk West play Thursday when they travel to Liberal to take on Seward County. Barton is currently 5-0 in the West.

Barton keeps unbeaten West mark in tact; hands Colby 1st West loss
The Barton County Community College volleyball team remained unbeaten in Jayhawk West play and in the process cut the number of unbeaten teams remaining from 3 to 2. The Cougars handed Colby its 1st West loss of the season at the Community Building in Colby, 23-30, 32-30, 30-17, 30-17. The win moves Barton to 5-0 in the West 1/2 game ahead of Hutchinson, who is 4-0. Colby drops to 4-1 with the loss. Barton, now 23-6 overall, will be in Jefferson, Mo. this weekend.

Barton drops 3 games to ranked foes; goes 1-3 at Hutch Tyson Invite
The Barton County Community College volleyball team was part of a loaded field at the Hutchinson Tyson Foods Invitational this past weekend. In all 5 ranked team played at the event with the Cougars doing battle with 3 of those ranked teams. Barton lost all 3 of those games and finished the weekend with a 1-3 record to fall to 22-6 for the season. The fell to the No. 4, No. 7, and No. 19 teams in the country during the event. No team went unbeaten during the event with 3 teams – No. 3 Iowa Western, No. 4 West Plains (Mo), and No. 7 Arkansas-Fort Smith – all went 3-1. Barton is back in Jayhawk West play Wednesday when the Cougars travel to Colby for a 6:30 pm start. Barton is currently 4-0 in the Jayhawk West – 1 of 3 unbeaten teams remaining in the conference. Colby, 4-0, is also 1 of those 3 teams.

Barton moves to 4-0 in Jayhawk West with win over Butler
The Barton County Community College volleyball team kept its perfect mark in the Jayhawk West with an easy win over Butler County Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym, 30-20, 30-19, 30-24. The win improves Barton to 4-0 in the West, tied for the top spot. Barton is now 21-3 overall and will get a tough test this weekend when the Cougars play 3 ranked – 2 in the Top 10 – at the Tyson Foods Invite in Hutchinson. Barton will back in conference action Wednesday when the Cougars travel to Colby, 1 of 3 unbeaten teams in the West along with Barton and Hutchinson.

Barton goes perfect 4-0 at Highland Hotel Invite; winning streak at 10
The Barton County Community College volleyball team remained hot this past weekend, rolling to a 4-0 mark and the championship of the Highland Hotel Invitational at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars lost just 2 games in its 4 matches, defeating the 20th ranked team in NJCAA Division and the No. 1 ranked team in NJCAA Division II in the process. Barton has now won 10 straight matches and 18 of the last 19 to improve to 20-3 overall this season. Barton’s only losses have been to teams ranked in the Top 15.

Cougars win Seminole Quad; have 4-0 weekend
The Barton County Community College volleyball team had a 4-0 weekend on the road this past weekend, going 3-0 at the Seminole State (Okla) Quadrangular as well notching a win over the Newman JV on the way to Oklahoma. Barton started the weekend out on Friday, winning in Wichita over the Friends JV on the way to Oklahoma. The Cougars then dominated the Seminole State Quad, winning over Paris (Texas), North Central Texas, and Seminole State. Barton is now 15-3 this season and will attempt to move to 3-0 in the Jayhawk West Wednesday with a road game at Garden City.

Barton remains unbeaten early in conference play
The Barton County Community College volleyball team remained unbeaten in Jayhawk conference play after their second match against a conference opponent. The Cougars rolled to victory over the Dodge City Conquistadors by the score of 30-24, 30-17, 30-21. The victory not only pushes Barton to 2-0 in conference competition, but boots their overall record to 11-3.

Cougars take 2nd in Colby Tournament; fall to 14th ranked team in finals
The Barton County Community College volleyball team took 2nd Saturday at the Colby Tournament, dropping only the final game of the event to No. 14 Frank Phillips, a team Barton defeated recently in a tournament in Texas. The Cougars finished the event with a 4-1 record to improve to 10-3 overall this season. The Cougars will be back home Wednesday when they take on Dodge City in Jayhawk West action at the Barton County Gym. Barton is currently 1-0 in the West.

Barton continues hot start with JV win
The Barton County Community College volleyball team continued their recent hot streak after their highly successful weekend trip to Texas. The Cougars took to the road to face the Friends JV team on Wednesday night and returned home with a 3 game sweep of the Falcons. Barton completed the sweep handily, with scores of 30-10, 30-12, and 30-19. 

Cougars knock off 2 ranked foes in Texas; go 3-1 at Blinn Invite

The Barton County Community College volleyball team showed they are one of the top teams in the country this past weekend with a 3-1 mark at the Blinn Invitational in Blinn, Texas. Barton defeated the No. 10 and No. 12 ranked teams in the country, losing only to host Blinn, who went 4-0 at the round robin event. The 3-1 mark moves to Cougars to 5-2 overall this season. Barton is 1-0 in the Jayhawk West after defeating Pratt last week in conference action.

Parker tabbed as new Barton volleyball coach
Ryan Parker will take over as the new volleyball coach for the Barton County Community College Cougars, replacing Kurt Kohler. Kohler took over as the Athletic Director at Barton earlier this summer. Parker comes to Barton from Utah State University, where he served as the top assistant the past 2 seasons. Parker also spent time at Wichita State University as an assistant coach. He assumes the coaching duties immediately with the season just a few weeks away.

Kohler named new Barton Athletic Director
Kurt Kohler has been selected to take over the Barton County Community College Athletic Director position, replacing Neil Elliott, who resigned in February effective May 11. Kohler was approved by the college’s Board of Trustee’s at its regular meeting monthly meeting Tuesday afternoon. Kohler, who has been the volleyball coach at Barton this past year, will take over the duties on May 12. He will not coach volleyball next season at the school.
