| Cougars place 3 on All Jayhawk West 1st team; 7 honored
With the Barton County Community College volleyball team heading
to the NJCAA Tournament in pursuit of its first NJCAA National
Championships, the team was rewarded with several members named
to the All Jayhawk West team and All Region VI, District D team.
Currently the Cougars are 30-1 as they take their No. 2 NJCAA
ranking to the NJCAA tournament this week in West Plains, Mo.
Three
players were honored with 1st team awards – Raquel
Ferriera, Paula Caten, and Livia Salzano. Ferreira was tabbed as
the Freshman-of-the-Year in the conference. Fabiana Lima, Claudia
Houle, and Lauren Scott were named 2nd team and Justeen Patton
earned honorable mention.
The
Cougars, along with co-West Champion Seward County and West 3rd
place finisher Hutchinson each placed 3 members
on the 1st
team. Barton’s 3 2nd team members in the West were the most
from any school as well.
On the all District D team, the Cougars and Hutch each put 3 members
on the 1st team with Hutchinson also getting 2 members on the 2nd
team while Barton County, which beat Hutchinson 4 times this season
without losing a single game, did not get any 2nd team members.

What's great about this year's team is that they are more concerned
with our team success than they are with individual awards. While
I think these individual awards reflect the great balance that
we have on our team, they do not reflect the strength or depth
of our talent.
