Campbell-Brown 2nd in women’s 200m; Henry 4th in men’s 400m
The 200m gold medal at the World Championships once again eluded former Barton sprint star Veronica Campbell-Brown. The winner of the event at the past 2 Olympic Games is still looking for that same World Championships medal after taking silver at the 12th annual IAAF Championships in Berlin Friday. Campbell took 2nd to Allyson Felix, who has now won gold in 200m at the past 3 World Championships in what has turned into quite a duel between the 2 runners. Former Cougar Simone Facey took 6th.

Tabarie Henry, a sophomore for Barton this past season, came in 4th at the World Championships in the 400m for the men, just missing a medal. Henry’s race capped the individual events for Barton athletes and former athletes with one gold medal, three silver medals and a three more 4th place finishes. Some former Cougars will still take part in the relays over the next couple of days.

Women’s 200m – Veronica Campbell-Brown, Simone Facey
The Campbell-Felix battle is one of the best in sprints right now with the two finishing 1-2 in the past three years at a pair of World Championships and the Oympics. In fact since Campbell, a Jamaican, won the 04 Olympics with Felix, and American, 2nd the two have gone 1-2 in every major championship since then with the exception of the 05 World Games when Felix won and Campbell took 4th.

This time Felix made it 3 World Championships in a row with a 22.02, well ahead of the 22.35 run by Campbell during the cool day in Berlin. Former Cougar and Campbell teammate for Jamaica Simone Facey was 6th in 22.80.

Men’s 400m  – Tabarie Henry
Henry entered the World Championships struggling much of the summer trying to find his stride. He found it in Berlin and nearly found it to the tune of a medal. Henry ran a 45.42 for 4th place behind a pair of Americans and long-time rival Renny Quow of Trinidad and Tobago. LaShawn Merritt won in 44.06 with Jeremy Wariner 2nd in 44.60. Quow, who battled head-to-head with Henry for the gold at the NCJAA Championships in 2008, ran 45.02 for 3rd.

Schedule
The 4x100m relays are yet to be contested with Tyson Gay expected to run in the finals for the USA team. He did not run in the opening round Friday as the American team qualified. Steve Mullings did run for Jamaica, which also qualified for the finals. It is yet to be determined whether Mullings will run in the finals. The finals are Saturday.

Campbell, Facey and Aleen Bailey will all probably run at some point for the Jamaican women’s 4x100m relay action. The semifinals and finals are Saturday.
