Brathwaite runs 3rd fastest time in world; Edward clocks wind-aided 10.03
The Barton Community College track team turned in some world-ranked efforts this past weekend at the Texas Relays as the outdoor season picks up steam. In just the 2nd outdoor meet of the season and the 1st against some top level competition, Barton’s Ryan Brathwaite ran the 3rd fastest time in the world this year in the 100m hurdles and Alonso Edward ran a blistering 10.03 in a wind-aided 100m dash.

Men
Brathwaite turned in a 13.32 in the finals with a wind-legal reading of 2.0. That time has been topped only by David Oliver (13.19) and Eric Mitchum (13.31) so far this year. The time is also a school record, which Brathwaite set last season. The 2008 Olympic semifinalist in the event blew way the competition in the college division of the Relays by nearly 15 meters. Barton’s Malcolm Anderson was 6th in 14.37. Brathwaite ran the fast time of anyone at the competition, including the prestigious 110m hurdles Invitational, won in a time of 13.49. Former Cougar Dexter Faulk was 4th in 13.86 in the Invitational.

Just as impressive but not getting a world mark due to the wind was Edward. Edward, whose best race is probably the 200m, dominated the 100m in the college division with a 10.03 aided by a 3.4 wind. Barton’s Justin Anderson ran an 11.07 for 4th. Edward’s time is the 3rd fastest in the world this year but all 3 marks are wind-aided – led by Usain Bolt’s windy 9.93. The fastest wind-legal time of the year is 10.08 as the outdoor season is just getting underway. The 10.03 was also the fastest 100m time of the Relays, besting the efforts of the winners in the university division and Invitational.

Also on the track, the 4x100m relay took 3rd in the college division in 40.35. The Cougar team consisted of Richard McCoy, Tabarie Henry, Edward, and Remuro Henry.

In the field, Barton was best effort came from Jimmie Pacifico, taking 2nd in the University/College Division Section B in the shot put with a heave of 55-7.50. Max Alonso was 5th in the shot at 53-9.25 and 6th in the discus with a throw of 170-04. Also in the field, Akeem Holmes was 5th in the long jump in the University/College Division Section A at 24-6.25.

Women
The women had 3 athletes place at the Texas Relays with the highest finish coming from Jasmine Simmons in the triple jump, where she took 2nd in the University/College Division Section B at 41-9.25. Andrea Sutherland was 5th in the 400m at the University/College Division in 59.79 and April Williams, also running in the University/College Division took 6th in the 100m hurdles in 13.53.

Former Cougar Mariam Barnes won the 400m hurdles Invitational in 57.48 and teamed with another former Cougar – Latosha Wallace – as part of the winning USA 4x400m relay team in 3:30.21.
