Edward enters world top 10 in 200m; Brathwaite, Henry keep rolling along
The Barton Community College indoor track teams have completed their final 2 meets prior to the Region VI Championships this weekend and did impressively. Alonso Edward moved into the top 10 in the world this year in the 200m with a time of 20.89 this past weekend at Texas A&M and Tabarie Henry finds himself just outside the top 10 in the 400m. Ryan Brathwaite continued his dominance with a pair of win in the 60m hurdles, including a top 20 world time and meet record at Nebraska. For the women, April Williams and Jasmine Simmons continue to pace the Cougars.

Men
Brathwaite set a new meet record with a 7.65 time in the 60m hurdles. That time also placed him in the Top 20 in the world this year in the event. Included in the list ahead of him is former Cougars Dexter Faulk at 7.50. Brathwaite has broken Faulk’s records he sat at Barton just a few years back. Edwards continued his improved time in the 200m running a 21.00 to win the competition at Nebraska. Tabarie Henry did likewise, running a 46.76 in the 400m. DreDame Carter was 2nd in the event in 47.16, which placed him in the Top 35 in the world.
Also on the track, the Cougars were 4th in both the 600 yards with Keonta Coleman and 800m with Terry Charles. Coleman ran a 1:12.52 while Charles ran 1:52.23. In the field, the Cougars Richard McCoy jumped 24-5.75 to take 2nd in the long jump.
Women
April Williams sprinted to yet another gold this year with a win the 60m hurdles. Williams – fresh off breaking the Barton school record previously held by Olympic bronze medalists Hyleas Fountain – won with another new school mark of 8.35. The Cougars also raced home with a gold in the 4x400m relay with Hadassah Bruno, Shelley Rolle, Andrea Southerland, and Kayon Robinson taking gold in 3:44.22. Southerland also took bronze in the open 400m at 56.12. Robinson ran a blistering 55.58 in the prelims did not run in the finals. Shaycoya Myers took 3rd in the 60m in 7.62 and 4th in the 200m in 25.14. Simone Buford ran the 2nd fastest time in the NJCAA this year with a 3:05.83 in the 1000m. In the field, the Cougars Jasmine Simmons won the triple jump with a leap of 41-7.

Men
Edward moved into the Top 10 in the world with his 20.89 time in winning the 200m. Only 6 athletes have ran faster this year than the 20.89 by Edward. The top time is 20.65. Henry moved into the Top 15 in the World with his season-best time of 46.63 in a race that saw him take 4th in a competitive race that a world best 46.17 win the race. Brathwaite won the 60m hurdles in 7.76 with teammate Malcolm Anderson 3rd in 8.02. McCoy had another nice meet, jumping 24-7 1/4 in the long jump for 3rd place.
Women
Williams and Simmons both had good outings at the prestigious meet with Simmons taking 2nd in the triple jump and Williams 3rd in the hurdles. Simmons jumped 42-1.25 on her 2nd attempt to put her in 2nd place, where she stayed the rest of the way to a 42-8.75 effort by TCU’s Nedira Covington. Williams ran an 8.40, just missing 2nd, which was 8.39.
