Pinnock moves into hurdles semifinals; Jones Olympics ends
Chris Pinnock moved within one step of a spot in the 110m high hurdle finals of the 2004 Summer Olympics. Pinnock, a former Barton County Community College running for Jamaica, moved into the semifinals with a 4th placed effort in Heat 3 of the quarterfinals. Pinnock’s 4th place was good enough to put him in the semis along with the automatic qualifiers. Stephen Jones, another ex-Cougar running for Barbados, wasn’t as fortunate, seeing his XXVIII Olympiad come to an end in the quarterfinals.

Pinnock ended with the 2nd fastest of the non-automatic qualifiers – the top 3 from each of the 4 heats automatically move on along with next 4 fastest times. Pinnock ran a 13.47 to finish 4th in Heat 3. Xaing Lui of China won the heat in 13.26. Pinnock will run in the semifinals tomorrow at 12:55 pm (CDT).

Jones took 6th in Heat 2 in 13.85. That heat was to feature Olympic record holder Allen Johnson but he did not finish the race.
