Cougars impressive at KU Relays
As has been the case during the Kansas University Relays the past few years, weather did not cooperate as much as it could have. Through some rain and cool weather, though, the Barton County Community College track and field team as impressive as usual.

In the most prestigious events at the event, the invitational events, the Barton County women won three sprints while the men captured one sprint and one hurdle event. Several top 3 efforts were turned in by the Cougars in those events as well.

Highlights
Women

It has been LaShauntea Moore’s turn to shine at the outdoor season for the Cougars and the KU Relays were no different. With defending NJCAA 100m and 200m champion Veronica Campbell sidelined this Outdoor season for the Cougars with a minor injury, Moore has taken over the mantle as the top women’s sprinter in the NJCAA.

Moore doubled up at the KU Relays, winning the 100m and 200m Invitational races. Moore dominated the 100m field, winning in 11.68. She also won the 200m by more than .5 seconds, running a 23.46. Moore, a sophomore from Ohio, earned a 3rd gold medal as part of the winning 4x100m relay team in the College Division.

In other Invitational races, which feature the elite athletes at the meet, Barton County finished 1-2 in the 400m dash. Kareen Gayle won the event in 53.09 followed by Patricia Hall with a 53.55. Kasia Williams placed 3rd in the 100m Invitational hurdles and Doria Appleberry was 4th in the 400m Invitational hurdles. Williams and Appleberry were also part of the winning 4x100m College Division relay team with Moore and Donesha Spivey.

In the rest of the College Division field the Cougars won the 4x400m relay with Gayle, Hall, Appleberry, and Anetia Denton capturing the gold.
