Barton men finish 8th at NJCAA Tennis Championships
The Barton County Community College men’s tennis team placed 8th at the NJCAA Championships in Plano, Texas this past week on the campus of  Collin County. The Cougars tied for that 8th spot with 21 points. Laredo (Texas) won the championship with 47 points while Tyler (Texas) was runner-up with 41 points. Barton had one player reach the semifinals as Petr Grigorev made the semis at No. 6 singles

Etienne and Schmidt 2nd in No. 3 doubles; Barton finishes 9th at NJCAA Meet
The Barton County Community College women’s tennis team finished 9th at the NJCAA National Championships in Tucson, Ariz. this past week. The No. 3 doubles team of Nyska Etienne and Shea Schmidt made it all the way to the finals before losing to the top seed in the draw from Hillsborough (Fla), 6-4, 6-1. Etienne reached the quarterfinals at No. 3 singles while the No. 1 doubles team of Le Nguyen Trang and Kateryna Chorna also reached the quarterfinals. The Cougars were the highest finisher in from the Region. Seven of the eight schools ahead of Barton were from Texas and Florida. Hillsborough won the title with 44 points with Lee College (Texas) and Abraham Baldwin (Ga) on its heels with 43 and 42. Barton ended with 29 points.

Barton men and women win Region VI tennis titles
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams finished off its dominance of its Region VI foes this season with a Region VI Championship captured over the weekend in Wichita. The men held off a challenge by Johnson, scoring 21 1/2 points for the win while Johnson was 2nd with 18 1/2. Cowley was 3rd with 16. For the women, Barton scored 22 1/2 points for the win while Seward was 2nd with 16. The Barton men captured 3 of the 6 singles titles and 2 of the 3 doubles titles. The women were champions in 3 singles and 2 doubles as well. The women play at the NJCAA National Championships May 3-9 while the men will hold its NJCAA Championships May 11-16.

Barton men win another narrow Jayhawk victory; women roll over Cowley
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams again both won Jayhawk Conference matches against future Region VI opponents this upcoming weekend, going about it in different fashions. The men again won by a narrow 5-4 margin over Cowley Saturday in Great Bend while the women won 6-0 before ending play due to the 5-point rule which can stop play if one team has clinched the win. Both the men and women went unbeaten against Region VI foes this year beating Seward County, Hutchinson, Johnson County and Cowley County. The men won those matches by a combined 27-9 count while the women won 30-3. The Region VI tournament will be this weekend in Wichita.

Barton men and women go 2-2 in tennis action over the weekend
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams hooked up with some top level competition this weekend in Oklahoma City with both teams going 2-2 over the weekend. The men fell to No. 4 Collin County (Texas) and No. 7 Seminole State (Okla). The Cougars are ranked No. 9 in the latest ranking which are from last fall. The Cougar women, also ranked No. 9, lost contests to No. 4 Collin and No. 5 North Central Texas. Barton defeated No. 12 Seminole over the weekend. The Cougar men are now 8-4 on the season while the women stand at 9-4.

Barton men escape Johnson with win; women roll to 8-1 win
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams took different routes to victory Tuesday afternoon in Topeka as the men fought off Johnson County to win a tight 5-4 decision while the women rolled to an easy 8-1 win over Jayhawk Conference and Region VI foe. The men improved to 8-3 on the season, winners of 4 straight.  The women are also 8-3 overall and have won 5 straight matches.

Cougars roll to 9-0 wins over Hutch in tennis
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams had another easy outing, defeating Hutchinson 9-0 on both the men’s and women’s side Friday afternoon at Veteran’s Park in Great Bend. The win was the 3rd straight for the men, who have compiled a 26-1 record in that stretch. For the women, it was their 4th straight win by a combined count of 33-3. The teams will at Johnson Tuesday in a contest moved from Monday due to weather concerns. Barton will travel to Oklahoma City this weekend for 4 matches. Barton will play 2 matches Saturday and two more on Sunday.

Barton blanks Newman 9-0 in men’s and women’s tennis
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams didn’t lose a match last week in Wichita in a 9-0 blanking of Newman College. The men and women both went unbeaten on the day as the men improved to 4-2 on the season and women 5-2 on the year.

Cougars roll by Jayhawk foe Seward in men’s and women’s tennis
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams had easy days of it in Liberal over the weekend with the men winning 8-1 and women winning 7-2 over Seward County. The action was the 1st of the season head-to-head against Region VI or Jayhawk Conference competition this spring. Barton men are 3-2 on the season and the women improved to 4-2. The Cougars are in Wichita to take on Newman University Thursday before a home contest with Hutchinson on March 28.

Barton women roll to win over Metro State, 8-1
The Barton County Community College women’s tennis got back on the winning side Thursday afternoon on the campus of Barton with an 8-1 win over Metro State (Colo) University. The rolled to 3 wins in doubles and 5 in singles to improve to 3-2 for the season. The men did not play. The Cougars men’s and women’s teams will travel to Liberal this weekend for a Jayhawk Conference contest with Seward County. The men are 2-2 on the year.

Tennis teams lose close contest at Nebraska-Kearney
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams lost a pair of close matches at Kearney, Neb with the men losing to the University of Nebraska-Kearney 5-4 and the women coming up a bit short as well, losing 5-3. Both teams are now 2-2 on the season.

Barton tennis teams win at Friends
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams improved to 2-1 on the season with wins over Friends University in Wichita. The Cougar men won 7-2 while the women blanked the Falcons, 9-0 at McAdams Park.

Barton men and women open season with 1-1 marks in Topeka
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams opened the 2008 season with a split in Topeka, with both teams losing to Washburn University  then defeating Baker College. The men lost to Washburn 7-1 before beating Baker by that same 7-1 score. The women lost to Washburn 7-2 then defeated Baker 8-1.

Trang 2nd in singles; Trang, Chorna 2nd in doubles at ITA Fall Regionals
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in the ITA Fall Regional this past weekend with Le Nguyen Thuy Trang taking 2nd in singles and teaming with Ketryna Chorna to take 2nd doubles for the women. The competitions were held in Overland Park and Johnson County with the winners moving on the ITA Fall Championships next month. Trang and Chorna could still make the Fall Nationals as an at-large but must now wait and see if that happens. For the men, Noe Losmosos and Roman Mendoza lost in the quarterfinals of singles and fell as a doubles team in the semifinals.
