Barton wins 4-0 at KCK; secures No. 2 seed in Region VI playoffs
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team ran locked down the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Region VI playoffs with a 4-0 win at Kansas City Kansas Friday night. The Cougars scored 3 2nd half goals to put the game away at Swope Park in Kansas City. Barton has just one game left in the regular season and holds the tiebreaker with Garden for 2nd if the two teams should tie. Barton is 9-1 in the region with only a contest against Allen County Tuesday while Garden is finished at 9-2. Johnson County, 10-0-1, will be the No. 1 seed.

Highlights
Barton led just 1-0 at halftime on the strength of a Leandro Reis penalty kick midway through the opening half. Barton quickly took control of the contest in the 2nd half, however. The Cougars got a pair of goals from Kevin Ellis – his 18th and 19th on the season – in the opening 10 minutes of the 2nd stanza. The 19 goals is puts him 5th for a single-season at Barton. He would move into a 3-way tie for 2nd at 20 goals. The school record is 25.

Ellis scored 5 minutes into the half on an assists from Martin Narvaez then added a 2nd goal 10 minutes in from Lynton Piertise. Ricardo Yeverino scored a goal with 12 minutes left on the clock to wrap up the 4-1 win over KCK. KCK is the only team to keep Johnson from a perfect record in conference action this year, earning a tie with the Cavaliers.

Barton concludes its regular season Tuesday when Allen County brings a 6-7-2 overall record and 3-5-1 region mark to town. The Red Devils are in a battle to make the 8 team playoffs that start the final week of October.
