Cougars battle past Cloud for Jayhawk win; winning streak at 9
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team captured a physical battle Wednesday in Concordia for a 4-1 win over Cloud County. The win kept Barton unbeaten in both the Jayhawk (6-0) and Region VI (7-0). The No. 11 ranked Cougars are 11-2 overall and winners for 9 straight games. Barton will get nearly a week off before host Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa in a night game at Great Bend High’s Memorial Stadium Thursday. The game will pit a pair of ranked foes with Northern Oklahoma carrying a No. 12 ranking into the 8 pm contest.

Highlights
Barton survived the physical contest which saw each team draw a red card late in the contest of the 4-1 Cougar win. Barton scored 3 times in the opening half for a 3-1 lead at intermission. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead on a Leandro Reis goal on a direct free kick just 5 minutes into the contest.

Kevin Ellis headed in the next two goals scoring on headers from corner kicks at the 20-minute mark from Harry Newman and the 35-minute mark from Tom Shaw for a 3-0 lead. Cloud scored a goal in the final 3 minutes of the half for the 3-1 halftime score.

Barton made it 4-1 in the opening 10 minutes of the 2nd half as Newman scored on a cross from Aaron Appel. That is where the score remained the rest of the contest.

Barton will now have a week off before hosting Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa Thursday night at Memorial Field in Great Bend. The Cougars, who moved into the rankings this week at No. 11, have not lost at home this season. Tonkawa is currently ranked No. 12.
