Barton lone unbeaten in Jayhawk after 3-0 blanking of Johnson
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team in now the lone unbeaten in the Jayhawk Conference after knocking off Johnson County 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The Cougars scored all 3 goals in the opening half to take sole possession of the top spot in the conference. Barton is now 6-0-1 in the conference leading the way with 19 points. Johnson falls to 6-1 along with Cloud County. Garden City is 5-1-1. The 4th ranked Cougars are still unbeaten on the season as well with a 15-0-1 mark. Barton will be at Neosho Wednesday in Jayhawk play.

Highlights
Barton quickly took the lead on the Cavalier with a pair of goals in the 1st 10 minutes. AJ Jackson scored the 1st goal on a header from Marcello Carminatti less than 5 minutes in. Carminatti got his own header on a cross into the box from Oscar Narvaez 9:03 into the contest. The Cougars added a 3rd goal at the midway point of the half when Narvaez scored on an unassisted goal after taking the ball from a Johnson defender, dribbling to the goal and scoring from 20 yards out.

The shutout was the 11th on the season for Barton, setting a team record. It was also an individual record for shutouts by goalkeeper Donovan Dowling. Last season Barton posted 10 shutouts as it did in 2005. Dowling now has 21 career shutouts.

Earlier in the week, Barton won a 3-1 decision at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa as Oscar Narvaez scored a goal and had an assist in that contest as well. Carminatti and Harry Newman also scored goals for the Cougars.

The Cougars have 3 Jayhawk contests remaining, starting Wednesday at Neosho in a 7 pm start. Barton will host KCK Sunday at 3 pm at Cougar Fields before ending the season at Independence October 23. The Region VI playoffs will begin Oct. 27-28 for quarterfinal action at home sites with the semifinal and finals at Hummer Park in Topeka Nov. 1-2.
