Twelvetrees named Coach the Year; Carminatti Player of the Year; 6 Cougars named to 1st team
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team made up nearly half the Jayhawk Conference 1st team released Wednesday with the Cougars placing 6 players on the 13-member team. In addition, Barton Coach Oliver Twelvetrees was tabbed as the Coach of the Year and Marcelo Carminatti as the Player of the Year. Carminatti was joined on the 1st team by Oscar Narvaez, Ous Senghore, Donovan Dowling, James Neighbour, and Travis Patzner. Leandro Reis was a 2nd team pick. The Cougars – 19-0-1 and ranked No. 2 in the country – will play in Region VI semifinal action this Saturday against KCK in Topeka. The finals are Sunday at Hummer Park.

Marcelo Carminatti – Sophomore – Brazil
Jayhawk Player of the Year; 1st team All Conference Forward

Carminatti has had a record-setting career at Barton. The sophomore tied Michael Brewer for the most goals in a career Tuesday when the Cougars won their 1st round Region VI playoff game. Both now have 28 career goals at Barton. Carminatti has 18 this season – 4th all-time in a single season. He is 7 behind the record of 25 by Brewer last season and just 3 off the 2nd best total of 20. His 75 career points are the best ever at Barton as are his 19 career assists – along with Narvaez. Carminatti is a repeat selection to the 1st team.

Donovan Dowling – Sophomore – Olathe, Kansas
1st team All Conference Goalkeeper
Dowling has been spectacular in his 2 seasons in goal for the Cougars, also earning a repeat selection to 1st team All Jayhawk Conference. Dowling is the career leader in shutouts for the Cougars with 13 this season and 23 for his career. The 13 this season is a single-season record. Dowling allowed just six goals all season long for Barton while posting 71 saves. In his 2 seasons as Barton, Dowling is 37-4-1 as a starter for the Cougars in goal.

Oscar Narvaez – Sophomore – Australia
1st team All Conference Midfield
Narvaez has set the Barton single season record for assists with 13 this season breaking the record of 11 set by Bruno Conceicao in 2005. He has 19 career assists to be the all-time leader along with Carminatti who has 10 assists this season. Narvaez has added 9 goals from his center midfield spot. Narvaez freshman season was cut short last year with an injury after just 12 games.

Ous Senghore – Freshman – Gambia
1st team All Conference Defender
In his 1st year for Barton, Senghore has been a force on a dominate Barton defense. The freshman from Gambia has been part of backline that has allowed its foes just 130 shots on the season – less than 7 per contest. Barton has given up just 6 goals the entire season and never more than 1 in a game.

James Neighbour – Sophomore – England
1st team All Conference Midfield
Neighbour was a 2nd team pick last season for Barton but was able to garner 1st team honors this year. The sophomore from England has started every game for the Cougars this year – along with Dowling the only 2 Cougars to do so. He has not recorded any goals but has 7 assists and has helped a dominating backline at times from his midfield position.

Travis Patzner – Sophomore – Hays, Kansas
1st team All Conference Defender
Patzner was also a part of a tough backline for the Cougars that currently has the mark for fewest goals allowed in a season with those 6 goals against. Patzner teamed with Senghore in the middle of the backline that allowed just 77 shots on goal this year – less than 4 per game.

Leandro Reis – Freshman – Brazil
2nd team All Conference Forward
Reis is the 2nd leading scorer for Barton with 15 goals on the year to go along with 9 assists. Reis has teamed with fellow Brazilian to be the 1-2 scorers for the Cougars this year. Barton has scored 85 goals this year to best the old mark of 72 set in 2005. Reis’ 15 goals are the 6th most in a season at Barton and just 5 behind the freshman record of 20 held by Conceicao in 2005. The total is the 3rd highest for a freshman at Barton.

Oliver Twelvetrees
Coach of the Year
Twelvetrees earns the Coach of the Year honor for the 2nd straight season after guiding Barton to a 19-0-1 mark overall and the No. 2 ranking in the latest NJCAA poll. That is the highest ranking ever for the Cougars. In his 3 seasons at Barton, the Cougars have been 15-1 (06), 19-4 (07), and 19-0-1 (08). That is a combined and staggering 53-5-1. Four of the five losses have been to ranked teams as was the tie.

This season Barton has broken the school mark for longest unbeaten streak, which stands at 20 games currently. The Cougars also have tied the mark for wins in a season with 19 – set last season – and currently has the best winning percentage in a season. The record is 15-1 for a .938 mark set in 2006. Barton has also set the school record for goals scored in a season (85) and is one pace to set the record for fewest goals allowed in a season (6). The Cougars allowed just 11 goals in 2006.

Barton will continue its quest for a 3rd Region VI title this weekend at Hummer Park in Topeka. The Cougars play KCK Saturday at noon with the winner moving on to the title game Sunday at 1 pm.
