Barton runs win streak to 12; stays unbeaten in Jayhawk with 2-0 win over Johnson
The Barton County Community College men’s soccer team removed one more obstacle toward an unbeaten season in the Jayhawk Conference this season with a 2-0 win over Johnson County Saturday at Cougars Fields in Great Bend. The Cougars moved to 5-0 in the Jayhawk and 12-1 overall, riding a school record 12-game winning streak. The wins also keeps Barton’s region unbeaten streak in tact at 15 games. Barton has just 3 games left – all Jayhawk Conference contests – starting Wednesday at Allen County in the final road game of the season.

Highlights
Barton took a 1-0 lead late in the opening half when Alex Liebeno scored on an assist from Omar Ayache in the final 10 minutes of the 1st half. Barton put 5 shots on goal in the opening half, scoring just once. The Cougars added a 2nd goal in the early stages of the 2nd half when Ayache scored on an assist from TJ Fry. It was Ayache’s team-leading 11th goal on the season, tying him for 5th on the all-time single-season list at Barton with 3 more games to play.

The shutout was the 6th of the season for the Cougars in 13 games. In 6 other games, Barton has allowed just 1 goal. The Cougars haven’t given up more than 1 goal since the season-opener, a 3-2 loss in overtime to No. 4 San Jacinto.

Barton will travel to Allen County Wednesday then close out the season at home with two games – Saturday against Neosho County and Wednesday against Cloud County.
