Barton moves to 2-0 in Jayhawk Conference play; Ayache earns hat trick
The Barton County Community College men’s soccer team continued streaking in Jayhawk Conference action, running its unbeaten streak in conference play to 11 games with a 3-1 win over Garden City Wednesday at Cougar Fields. Barton rallied from a 1-0 halftime to deficit to move to 2-0 this year in the Jayhawk Conference, led by Omar Ayache, who netted all 3 Barton goals. The Cougars have now won 5 straight contests after a season-opening loss to No. 5 San Jacinto (Texas) in a pair of overtimes. Barton is now 5-1 overall as they prepare for the Mid Kansas Shoot Out this weekend at Cougar Fields, where the Cougars will take on unbeaten Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa as well as Western Nebraska.

Highlights
Barton got off to a slow start in the contest, putting just 3 shots on goal in the opening half as Garden City took a 1-0 lead at the tail end of the 1st half, scoring with just 23 seconds to play in the half. In the 2nd half, the Cougars picked up the pace a bit, getting 5 shots on goal, netting 3 of those – all from the foot of Ayache.

Ayache, who leads Barton with 8 goals this year in just 6 games, tied the score at 1-all just more than 5 minutes into the 2nd half. About 5 minutes later, Ayache gave the Cougars their 1st lead of the game at 2-1. Ayache notched his hat trick at the 63:34 mark of the contest to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead and the win. Micah Nelson and Pedro Petris had assists for the Cougars.

Barton will step out of conference action this weekend to face an unbeaten Northern Okahoma team that brings 4-0 mark to the game Friday. The Cougars will play 2-2 Western Nebraska Sunday.
