Barton continues Jayhawk streak with 3-1 win over Dodge
The Barton County Community College men’s soccer team ran its unbeaten streak in the Jayhawk Conference to 12 games, winning a 3-1 decision against Dodge City Wednesday to remain the only unbeaten team in the conference. Barton currently sits tied 3rd place in the conference with 9 points – due to the fact Barton has only played 3 conference games and is currently 3-0. Dodge (4-1-1) leads with 13 points followed by Garden City (3-1-1) with 10. Neosho (3-1) has 9 points as well. The Cougars are off until next Wednesday when they travel to Tonkawa, Okla. Barton will put its 8-1 overall record and 8-game winning streak on the line against No. 13 Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.
Highlights
The Cougars looked to be in good shape in the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead to halftime despite playing into a strong south wind the opening 45 minutes. The Cougars went up 1-0 on an Omar Ayache goal just more than 13 minutes into the game. Pedro Petris assisted the goal. Dodge City, however, made a game of it quickly into the 2nd half, evening the game at 1-all following a goal just 2:11 into the 2nd half.
Barton reclaimed the lead midway through the 2nd half when Thiago Baby scored the 1st of his 2 goals in the half on a corner kick. Michael Brewer put the ball in play with the corner, finding its way to Baby for the goal in the box. The duo repeated that performance in the final 10 minutes of action as a Brewer corner kick turned into a Baby goal for a 3-1 lead with 4:02 to play.
