Cougars
rout Hutch, 81-48
The
Barton County Community College men’s basketball team emphatically
put an end to its brief 2-game losing streak with an 81-48 drubbing
of Hutchinson Saturday night at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars
jumped to an early lead and continued to put the pressure on the
Blue Dragons the entire contest. The win moves Barton to an even
6-6 in the West and 11-15 overall while Hutchinson falls to 5-7
in the West and 15-9 overall. The Cougars are back at home Wednesday
against Butler County in a 7:30 pm tip.
Highlights
The Cougars got off to an early lead in the contest at 22-7 then
took a 37-28 lead to the locker room at halftime. During that opening
half, the Cougars hit 15-of-29 shots from the floor. But things
would get even better in the 2nd half.During the 2nd 20 minutes,
Barton knocked down 58 percent of its attempts, hitting 15-of-26
from the floor. Hutchinson, meanwhile, hit just 18-of-50 shots for
the contest for 36 percent.
Barton
dominated the inside, outscoring Hutch in the paint by a 36-16 margin.
The Cougars put all 3 post players in double figures, led by Antanas
Kavaliauskas with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Adam Hrycaniuk came
off the bench to get his 1st career double-double with 13 points
and 10 assists. Diogo Salazar added 10 points and 7 rebounds. With
all the scoring on the inside, the guards were adding up assists
from the perimeter. Marcus Barrett led the way 7 and Aubrey Bruner
added 6 with Caleb Tegtmeier contributing 5.
The
Blue Dragons were led by Keith Windom who came off the bench to
toss in 11 points. Michael Williams, who burned Barton in Hutch
for 25 points, was limited to just 8.
The
loss was the 4th worst in school history for Hutchinson and the
worst loss since 1969 for the Blue Dragons.
