Cougars
put together best effort of West season with 83-61 win
The
Barton County Community College men’s basketball team finally
found the rhythm its had been missing since the announcement of
sanctions on the team a week ago. After a pair of lackluster losses,
the Cougars had new energy Wednesday night at the Barton County
Gym, defeating West foe Colby, 83-61, for the 1st West win of the
season. Barton is now 6-10 overall and 1-2 in the West. Colby fell
to 10-6 and 1-2.
Highlights
The Cougars shot 58 percent from the floor, just the 3rd time all
year the Cougars surpassed the 50 percent mark. The past two games
Barton shot less than 40 percent. But this time Barton had its shot
down. The Cougars his 33-of-57 shot from the floor while Colby hit
just 22-of-57.
Barton
jumped to an early lead in the contest 31-23 and extended that lead
to 41-27 by halftime. The Cougars continued their assault on the
nets by hitting 62 percent in the 2nd half on 18-of-29 shooting
from the floor. The Cougars held Colby to just 12-of-29 from the
field.
The
Cougars got a career-tying high from Antanas Kavaliauskas with 28
points. He was followed by Aubrey Bruner with 12 points. Jamual
Warren led three Trojans in double figures with 18 points.
