Barton runs
winning streak to 6 with win over Dodge
The
Barton County Community College men’s basketball team struggled
for one half, but turned things on in the second half on its way
to a 76-57 win over Dodge City Saturday night in Jayhawk West action
at the Barton County Gym.
The Cougars, ranked No. 7 in the country, are now
19-2 overall and 6-1 in the Jayhawk West. Dodge City falls to 1-6
in the West and 10-10 overall.
Highlights
Barton trailed most of the first half, including a 39-33 deficit
at the intermission. But the Cougars turned up the defense in the
second half and rode the hot shooting of Stan King to the win. King
poured in 17 points during a 6-minute stretch to give Barton County
the lead for good in the second half.
King came off the Barton County bench to score 20
points -- all in the second half -- keyed by a 5-of-7 night behind
the 3-point arc. King finished 7-of-9 overall from the floor to
pace the Cougars.
Rodney Epperson and Randy Pulley joined King in
double figures. Epperson tossed in 15 points for the Cougars while
Pulley recorded his 3rd double-double of the season. The sophomore
point guard had 13 points and 12 assists for Barton. Robert Whaley
just missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Dodge City, which scored just 18 second half points,
was led by Jason Ingram with 16 points and Edwin Coker with 10.
