Barton women golfers open season in Jayhawk event
The Barton Community College women’s golf team opened its season with a 4th place finish in Jayhawk Conference play in the opening conference meet of the season held at the Atwood County Club in a meet hosted by Colby. The meet was originally scheduled to be at the Colby Country Club but was moved. The 2nd meet is slated for 12-14 at the Independence Country Club.
Highlights
The Cougars were led at Atwood by Taylor Espinoza who took 10th overall with a score of 150. She opened with a 49 on the opening round of 9 holes then returned the next day to shoot a 101 over 18 holes. She was followed by Dani Bulland who shot 50 and 106 for a 156. Christen Markovich (168) and Malori Bell (172) rounded out the Barton total of 646. Dodge City won the event with a 553 followed by Coffeyville with a 598. Colby was 3rd at 612.
Sammy Cutmore won the individual medalists honors with a 128, shooting a 47 on the opening day and an 81 over 18 holes the 2nd day. She won a tiebreaker over Dodge City’s Emma Cutmore, who also shot a 128 with a 43 and an 85.
The Cougars are back in action this weekend when they travel to Denver to take part in the Regis Invitational. Barton’s next conference meet will be in a couple of weeks at the Independence Country Club for the 2nd of 4 conference meets this year. This is the final meet of the fall season.
