Barton 7th in Jayhawk men’s golf meet at Quail Ridge
The Barton Community College men’s golf team took 7th in the 2nd Jayhawk Conference meet of the season Monday at Quail Ridge Country Club in Winfield. The Cougars didn’t shot as well in the 2nd meet of the season, placing 4th in the opening meet recently. Barton shot a team total of 639, well off the pace of Hutchinson, which won the meet easily with a 583 total. Barton has one more conference meet before the fall season ends. That will take place at The Highlands in Hutchinson in early October.
Highlights
Barton was able to put just 1 golfer in the Top 20 as Tyler Hallagin shot a 155 for a 13th place tie. Hallagin shot an 80 during the 1st round over the Par 74 layout then came back with a 75 for the 155 total. Tobey Mullen had the best opening round for Barton with a 78 but shot an 80 to finish the day for a 158. Ben Eastes shot an 83 then came back stronger with a 78 for a 161. Derek Burgen shot a 165 for Barton to round out the team scoring. Travis Neidig shot a 176.
Dodge City’s Anders Engell and Hutchinson’s Nicky Maddison shared top medalists with a total of 142. Engell shot back-to-back 71’s while Maddison shot a 74 and 68. Hutchinson won the team event by more than 30 strokes with its 583 followed by Coffeyville and Johnson County at 614.
Barton will be part of the final fall conference meet in two weeks when the Cougars travel to Hutchinson to play at The Highlands. The conference will resume its season in the spring with 3 more conference meets.
