Barton men take 4th at Jayhawk golf opener in Dodge City
The Barton Community College men’s golf team place 4th at the Jayhawk Conference opener recently at Mariah Hills Country Club in Dodge City. Barton finished with a team total of 637. Hutchinson won the event by nearly 30 strokes, shooting a 597. The Cougars were just 12 strokes out of 2nd. Barton’s next meet will take place September 22 in Winfield at Quail Ridge Country Club.
Highlights
Barton didn’t place any golfer in the Top 10 but did put 3 members in the Top 20. Tobey Mullen and Tyler Hallagin each shot a 157 for the Cougars over the 36-hole tournament. Mullen shot an 80 over the Par 71 layout the opening day and came back with a 77 the 2nd day. Hallagin shot an 81 and a 76 as both golfers tied for 15th. Ben Eastes was also a Top 20 finisher, placing 20th with an 82-78 for 161. Cale Demel shot an 84-78 – 162 while Derek Burgen shot 84-85 – 169 to round out the scoring for Barton.
Brice Quinlan of Kansas City Kansas won top medalists paced by a sizzling 3-under 68 on the 2nd day after shooting an 80 the opening day. Quinlan finished with a 148, 1 stroke better than Miles Chirstensen (75-74 – 149) of Johnson County.
Following Hutchinson in the team standings was Dodge City in 2nd with a 625 and Johnson in 3rd with a 628. Barton will be at Quail Ridge Country Club in Winfield for its 2nd conference meet of the season. The Cougars will round out the fall conference slate with a trip to The Highlands in Hutchinson in October.
