The Barton County Community College men’s golf team could not recapture
the magic of the District III Tournament at the NJCAA National Championships
in Dodge City. Barton struggled to scores over 300 on 3 of the 4 days of competition,
ending in 16th place at the event with a total of 1253. Odessa College (Texas)
won the meet with an 1163. Martyn Pearson was the low shooter for the Cougars
during the event at Mariah Hills – tied for 31st in individual medallist
honors with a 13-over par 297 over 4 rounds.

The Barton County Community College men’s golf team had been a team struggling
to shoot under 300 during the season. During the District III Tournament – when
it mattered most – the Cougars made shooting under 300 look easy. In fact,
Barton did it 3 straight rounds and surprised several folks by taking 2nd and
moving on to the NJCAA National Tournament in a couple of weeks. After sizzling
Monday at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Barton kept it going Tuesday,
shooting a 295 for a 3-round total of 887. That tied Barton with Jayhawk Conference
Champion Dodge City, but the Cougars – thanks to the 5th scorecard – defeated
Dodge by the tiebreaker to earn runner-up honors to Indian Hills (Iowa). Indian
Hills nearly lapped the field, shooting a remarkable 859 to win the event. The
top 5 teams move on to the NJCAA National Championships to be played in Dodge
City at the Country Club May 10-14.

The Barton County Community College men’s
golf team had perhaps its best combined day of
the golf season Monday during day 1 of the District
held at Buffalo Dunes in Garden City. The Cougars fired a 298 and 294 during
their two rounds to tee off the 54-hole event. That gave the Cougars a combined
score of 592, good for 3rd place. Indian Hills (Iowa) is running away with
the event, posting a 289 and 282 for a 571 total.
Dodge City is in 2nd place at 591.
The tournament will finish with 18 holes today. The top 5 teams in the district
get to move on the NJCAA National Tournament held in Dodge City at the Country
Club May 10-14.
takes charge at Cougar Classic Golf Meet
The Barton County Community College men’s and women’s
golf team fought the wind during the 2nd day of competition
along with the rest of the teams Monday
during the Cougar Classic at the Club at StoneRidge in Great Bend. The Barton
men finished in 2nd place, six strokes behind Kansas City Kansas. Martyn Pearson,
Barton sophomore, took medallist honors during the Classic. The Barton women
did not field a full team.

The Barton County Community College men’s golf
team had one of its better outings of the young season,
tying for 4th at the Hutchinson Designate Monday
at The Highlands Golf Course. It was the Cougars highest finish this year,
up one for the only other previous Jayhawk Conference
designate this season.
