Barton ends season with loss to Cowley in Region VI play
The Barton Community College baseball team had its season come to and end with a 3-0 loss to Cowley County Monday afternoon in the loser’s bracket of the Region VI Championships. Barton had defeated Johnson County the previous day after losing in the opening round to Garden City. The Cougars end their year with a 31-24 record. Cowley eventually won the Region VI title, coming through the loser’s bracket for the title over Seward County.

Cougars split series at Butler; await fate for home playoff series
The Barton Community College baseball team split its 4-game series at Butler over the extended weekend, winning one game each Friday and Monday at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado. The split completes the Cougars Jayhawk West schedule with an 18-14 record. The top 4 teams in the West will receive a 1st round home playoff series. Barton is currently in 5th place with the rest of the league completing its West schedule this weekend. Barton is now 26-21 overall with a 3-game series at Coffeyville this weekend and a home doubleheader with Clarendon (Texas) April 28. Region VI playoffs will begin May 2-3 with 1st round series. In the process Drew Smith tied Brad Schmidt as the single-season record holder in saves with a pair to run his season total to 11.

Barton wins 3 of 4 against Cloud to set up big final West weekend for Cougars; Smith sets career save record
The Barton Community College baseball team won a Jayhawk West series 3-1 for the 3rd time in the last 4 series. This time it was Cloud County the Cougars took 3 of 4 from, splitting games Saturday before sweeping the Thunderbirds Monday. During the win in the opener, Drew Smith broke Brad Schmidt's record for career saves at Barton with 17th over 2 seasons. Barton also took a pair of non conference games from McCook (Neb) Tuesday to improve its record to 24-19 on the season. The Cougars will be in their final West series this weekend when they travel to Butler to take on the Grizzlies. The rest of the conference has one more weekend but Barton’s bye date falls on that final weekend. The Cougars are currently 16-12 in the West tied with Butler for that fourth and final home playoff spot in the West. Butler is 14-10. Close behind is Seward at 13-11. Three teams lead the West with a 16-8 mark – Colby, Garden City, and Hutchinson.

Barton rebounds with pair of wins Tuesday to split West series with Colby
The Barton Community College baseball team bounced back with a pair of wins Tuesday to split its Jayhawk West series with Colby. Barton lost a pair Monday then swept the West leaders on Tuesday to stay within striking distance in a jumble West race. Barton rode a 1-hit effort from pitcher Spencer Blades in the opener Tuesday and followed with a rally from 6-3 down in the 2nd game for the sweep. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Colby Saturday and Sunday but snow in that area moved the location and dates of the games. It is the 2nd weekend in a row Barton has had to move location and dates due to snow. Barton is now 19-18 overall and 13-11 in the West. Colby falls to 25-14 and 12-8 in West play. Garden leads the West with a 13-7 record. Barton will be at home this weekend with games sandwiched around Easter. Barton will play Saturday and Monday against Cloud with first pitch set for 1 pm at Lawson-Biggs Field.

Cougars take 3 of 4 against Seward; win 2nd straight West series
The Barton Community College baseball team has put itself back in the thick of the Jayhawk West race by taking 3 of 4 against Seward County on the heels of winning 3 of 4 in a series at Pratt. Barton won the final 3 games against the Saints Monday and Tuesday at Larks Park in Hays. The contest was slated to be played at Great Bend but 14 inches of snow moved the series north to Hays and pushed it back 2 days. The Cougars lost the opener of the series before winning the 2nd game Monday and sweeping Tuesday. Barton is now 11-9 in the West and 16-15 overall. Seward fell to 8-8 and 19-13. Barton is currently 4th in the West but just a game behind West leader Colby. Barton will travel to Colby this weekend for another big series on Saturday and Sunday.

Barton wins 3 of 4 at Pratt to even Jayhawk West record
The Barton Community College baseball team climbed back to the .500 mark in Jayhawk West action this weekend by taking 3 of 4 from Pratt on the road. Barton lost the opener then won the last 3 games at Stanion Field to draw to 8-8 in West action. Barton is now 14-15 overall. The Beavers fell to 3-13 in the West and 6-22 overall. Barton will have a chance to get itself back in contention for the Jayhawk West title this weekend when Seward County visits Lawson-Biggs Field.

Cougars drop 3 of 4 to Hutch in Jayhawk West action
The Barton Community College baseball team wasn’t able to win that final game of the 4-game series to salvage a split this past weekend. During the opening two series, Barton was able to do that and go 2-2 on the weekend but Hutchinson took a pair from Barton Sunday afternoon and left town winning 3 of 4 against the Cougars. The series leaves Barton 11-13 for the season and 5-7 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson is now 9-13 and 7-5. Butler leads the West with a 9-3 mark. Colby and Seward are both 5-3.

Barton splits another West series; stands 4-4 in conference action
The Barton Community College baseball team was again able to salvage a split of the Jayhawk West series over the weekend. After splitting the season-opening series with Dodge City, Barton traveled to Garden City and did likewise against the Broncbusters. The two clubs split double headers both Saturday and Sunday in a pair of pitching battles Saturday with hitting taking over by the final contest on Sunday. Barton and Garden are now both 4-4 in the West. The Cougars are 10-10 overall on the season while Garden is now 14-5. Colby and Butler lead the West at 5-3. Barton will be in action this weekend against Hutchinson – another team that is at 4-4 in the West. The weekend series will get under way Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field in Great Bend with a twinbill at 1 pm. The same 2 teams will battle Sunday at 1 pm in a pair of games as well.

Cougars win pair of salvage split of opening West series
The Barton Community College baseball team won a pair of games Monday to salvage a split in the opening series of Jayhawk West action. Barton won 9-4 and 6-2 Monday after dropping a pair of 8-6 decisions Sunday. The Cougars are 2-2 in West play and 8-8 overall on the season. Dodge City, also 2-2 in the West, is 5-8 overall this year. The Cougars led every game going into the final inning but gave up that lead twice on Sunday. Barton will be on the road next weekend for a 4-game series at Garden City.
