Jay
Sirriani enter his second season as an assistant for the Cougars.
Sirriani is the pitching coach for Barton County.
During
his first season, the Cougars pitching staff finished with a 4.51
ERA and opposing hitters only mustering a .285 batting average.
Sirianni,
a native of Indianola, Iowa, takes over as Warren's assistant with
the main responsibility of working with the pitchers.
"Pitching,
in my opinion, is the most important part of baseball," Coach
Warren said. "If you don't have someone you can trust, you
are going to struggle. That is not a worry with Jay. I can turn
the staff over to him and let him run it with no worries."
Baseball
is in Sirianni genes. His father has been the coach at Simpson College,
an NCAA Division III school in Indianola for the past 16 years.
Before that he was the coach at Indianola High School.
"I
joke with my friends that it took me five years of college to realize
the only thing I know is baseball," Sirianni said.
During
his playing days at Indianola High School, Sirianni was a two-time
All-State selection and a three time All-League honoree. He pitched
four years for the University of Nebraska.
The
past couple of years, Sirianni spent time in the Cleveland Indians
organization, starting in rookie ball and ending up with the Kingston
Indians of the Carolina League -- a high A team.
